Desc: Petite Mort: The Death of the Americana: Directed by Billy Barnes. With Jimi Bartlett, Blake Leonhardt. After commandeering his mother's car for an impromptu spin through Vegas, Sandoval ( Blake Leonhardt ) comes across a drifter ( Jimmy Bartlett ) who agrees to show him a good time around the City Of Lights. The two explore Vegas under the influence of mind bending substances all the while speaking of a great journey to a small town named Douglas in Arizona to score copious amounts of cocaine. Their journey there not only takes them to the far edges of their psyche but also to the far reaches of their existential existences. Along the way they come across a strange cast of characters which include; Joe, an ex-patriot who schools them on the current development of our society, an apparition, whom they meet in an old cemetery, and a wiry cocaine dealer who resides in an old hotel. Best described as living in the moment, the two companions venture through the story not knowing that all the while they are being hunted by the consequences of their actions. Shot in reverse order ( shooting the last scene first and the first scene last ) the film began as an improvised story that eventually turned into a full blown experiment in capturing reality. Directed/Produced by Billy Barnes, the film was a statement to all that the story of our existence isn't always glamorous or action packed but a series of events that all lead up to climax. Whether that climax is epic or a complete fail, it is nonetheless a climax.
